I wouldnt say its a scam, I mean as long as theyre honest about the price theyre willing to buy or sell for, theyre not really scamming anyone.... Its the same with runners, I mean sure It can be irritating to see low levels paying to be run everywhere instead of playing the game, but I wouldnt call the runners themselves, scammers.

No scam, unless you're tricking newbies out of black dye in pre-searing.

I buy low in lions arch most of the time knowing that i can get more for the item, but i don't see this as me scamming someone.

I won't normally make offers on items, i'd much rather buy at a price thats set by them as this way i don't bid to high and they get what they think is fair for the item.

People don't have to sell items if they don't want to.

A. for 15k in 5 minutes

or

B. 60k in 20-30 minutes

(theoreticly, lets not nitpick at prices, times)

I choose A, but im not getting cheated, its not a scam.

It depends how low you buy for and if you're knowingly taking advantage of a newcomer e.g. buying black dyes from someone for 100gp. Then you're being unscrupulous.

Its called active trading. Knowing when to spot a good deal and when to resell it for higher. I do this a few times when i need money and have a few items that i have bought either unid'd or found someone selling for cheap just to get rid of it.

youll be suprised how many people will sell things for less that what they *could* get for it because they despise the current trading system.

It really mimics the RW (real world, smile). Many of us will pay extra for convenience, to save time. So instead of doing a job that we could easily do - say mowing the lawn - we hire someone to do it.

In the game, I often willingly sell an item for less, or pay a little more than the normal price, just to get the trade done and to move on with the game.

Is it a scam? It depends on your economic perspective. For most buying low and selling high is the norm.

If weapon mod merchants with fixed buy/sell prices were in the game, would it be a scam then?

If you think that buying low and selling high is a form of scam, then my friend, you are being scammed every single day of you life. For example, when you buy some gasoline for your car and say you're paying $2.35 a gallon, do you think they pay the same as you do when they buy gasoline from some companies? No. They pay for it cheaper then sell it higher so they can make a profit. That's how it basically goes with everything else.

First off, buying low and selling high is NOT scamming in any way. If you offer someone something and they accept your offer or you meet their low asking price you are being a wise purchaser.

I agree Mistress, i brought my Chaos Axe from someone at Ascalon the stats at 6-28 (req 11) +14% dmg in stance, +28 health and lengthen deep wound... for 13k.

Now i upgrade my Chaos Axe with 10/9 AP on it and it work really well for me.

why is this even a thread?

no buying low selling high is not a scam.

however, purposely selling / buying something at beyond its reasonable value (like selling a collector item for 100k) is a scam.

if just buying low and selling high is a scam, then the game merchants and traders in are the biggest scammers, not the players. think about it -- go and buy a superior salvage kit, how much did you pay for it, and how much is the merchant willing to buy it back for....

How can something just about everyone (adults, I suppose, mostly) do every day be considered a scam?

If you don't buy low and sell high in the stock market, you'd be a fool! :P And no, not a "motly" fool, but a poor one w/o any prospect of retiring comfortably on your own 401k plan.

If you feel that you've (willingly at the time) sold something to someone for too low of a price (no you are not being scammed), then do your homework and know what the going rates are for things and not do it again. The person didn't put a gun to your head and said you have to sell it (a crime, not just a scam). I suppose GW is a good tool to teach children about these facts of (real) life.

It's even happening at EBay. Some people in the world are living from EBAY buying low, selling high. It's just the way the market goes.

What constitutes scamming to me is: tricking new players out of their valuable items for low prices because they don't know what it's really worth and then selling it for much more only because you do know what it is worth.

Like, telling them their req 12 14^50 Chrystalline, they got from a friend who quit the game, isn't worth more than 100k because it has a high req and imperfect damage mod. Players who don't have some knowledge about items and the basics of trading are very easily blinded by you placing a bid that surpasses anything they've ever had combined. And I don't see that as their fault for not 'doing their homework'. But hey, I guess some players have no idea what integrity, honesty and decency are really about.

Just curious, what is a 14^50 Chrystalline sword worth?

And if all I want is 100k for it anyway, how am I getting ripped off?
